DEPI Gippsland region
The Gippsland region spans the area from just east of Melbourne to the New South Wales border and from the Great Dividing Range in the north to the coast in the south. The region borders Port Phillip and the Hume regions and comprises six Local Government Areas: East Gippsland, Wellington, Latrobe City, South Gippsland, Baw Baw and Bass Coast. DEPI's activites in Gippsland reflect the range of natural resources in the region and the diversity of communites and partners we work with to care for those resources. DEPI works with other agencies like Catchment Management Authorities, Parks Victoria, VicForests, Water Authorities, CFA, Local Government, Environment Protection Authority.
The Victorian Bushfire Information Line (VBIL) provides information during and after bushfires - call 1800 240 667.
In a situation where you can see or smell smoke, VBIL can advise whether or not a planned burn is in progress.
